Ways to Write Numbers

This year we will be working with three forms of notation: standard form, expanded form, and word form.


Standard Form:  the regular way we see a number
        1,369


Expanded Form: shows the number stretched out into an addition statement...it shows the value of each digit
      1,000+300+60+9

 9.549: 9+0.5+0.04+0.009


Word Form: writing out in words each value
       one thousand, three hundred sixty-nine
